Each month in 2024, we will be recognising a volunteer in Middlesex who has gone above and beyond to help support the game in their local area.
February - Sangeetha Theivendra
A big thank to Sangeetha Theivendra for her support coaching in the County Age Group pathway. Sangeetha, better known as Sangy, completed her UKCC2 (now Core Coach) course Middlesex back in 2018. She has always had a passion for ensuring that young girls could access coaching, whilst also having the opportunity to play friendlies and competitive league cricket, which she did at Harrow with huge success.
This year she received amazing news that she had passed her Advanced course qualification (Level 3). Sangy now leads on the U12 and U14 Area Cricket Programme for girls, and is the coach manager of the U15 County Girls Squad. When she has time she also helps with the U13 and U18 age groups. Middlesex County and Area girls are so lucky to have Sangy working with them, and, with the passion and knowledge that she brings, it can only benefit the girls going forward with the standard of coaching being raised.

January - Kamaljeet Sembhi
A big thank you to our volunteer Kamaljeet Sembhi, better known as Kam, for her support in kick starting the Middlesex Cricket 2024 Coach Education campaign, by recruiting ten South Asian women to attend the Women’s only ECB Coach Support Worker course on 14th January in Greenford.
Kam started her cricket coaching journey through the ECB “Dream Big” Women’s volunteering programme in 2021. Her first experience was as an All Stars Activator course, from where she began leading on All Stars and Dynamos Cricket Programmes in her community. Her positive experience as an Activator motivated her to go on and complete the ECB Foundation Course later that year. Her purpose was to become a role model for next generation of Asian children, by showing that cricket is a game for them, and also to inspire more women from ethnically diverse communities to become volunteers and or coaches in cricket. In her own words, Kam says that her interaction with fellow female volunteers from within the cricket community continues to motivate her to give up her time, inspiring the next generation of boys and girls to pick up a bat and a ball.

The Grassroots Cricket Collective Awards are aimed at recognising those volunteers who give their time to the game of cricket – without these individuals the game would not survive.
