Educational opportunities

We are delighted to release a new Educational Opportunities programme in February 2024, with coaching programmes tailored to suit schools around the County.

There are lots of opportunities for staff and students at every school across Middlesex to get involved in cricket, and we are looking to make it as accessible as possible by bringing training, mentoring and coaching courses to them.

Chance to Shine

The aim of the Chance to Shine programme is to increase the number of school pupils being given the opportunity to play cricket, with more people being active and enjoying the game, across the country. Our coaches deliver a focused programme of primary school cricket, teaching pupils how to play cricket alongside academic and life skills.

In addition to the primary school programme we also offer a number of additional products for schools. This includes taster sessions, engagement assemblies, teacher training, visits to a Middlesex match, Young Leader Training, curriculum and extra curriculum coaching and cross curricular projects.

Chance to Shine Girls Competitions

We were delighted that the Chance To Compete girls softball competitions are running again this summer. Competitions for U13 & U15’s Secondary School age groups are always very successful, with over 400 girls taking part each year.

Girls Indoor Competitions

Middlesex Cricket, in partnership with the ECB, host competitions for U13 and U15 Girls across all secondary school. Schools compete in each borough, where the victorious team progresses into the regional rounds. The 4 winning schools then go onto compete in the county finals, before our champions go onto represent Middlesex in the South East regional final competitions alongside the other counties.

Kwik Cricket

This is a National Programme where Year 5 & 6 participants from schools within the 32 different London boroughs compete to win their borough competition, with the winning school qualifying for the Kwik Cricket Finals, with London Youth Games. There are two competitions run – a Girls tournament, and a ‘Best’ tournament (where the best players from each school can compete). To enter, the SGO from each borough will send the school expression of interest form.

SCAM (Schools Cricket Association of Middlesex)

SCAM is responsible for the local delivery of the English Schools Cricket Association’s (ESCA) hard-ball school competitions. SCAM is affiliated to ESCA who coordinate school competitions across England and organise National Finals. Affiliation is open to state and independent schools.
